ROLLINGSTONE.COM: Mandy Moore has returned to pop with her first new song in a decade, “When I Wasn’t Watching.” The single is the first off a forthcoming full-length album.

Produced by Mike Viola (Jenny Lewis, Andrew McMahon), Moore channels Seventies California pop for the breezy, refreshing new song. In the video, Moore appears alone, performing the song through a series of gorgeous vignettes, including a pool and sepia-toned room.

In a statement, Moore revealed the inspiration for the song. “I think everyone’s had the experience of feeling lost and not quite understanding how you’ve found yourself at a certain point in your life. And I think the key is not to judge yourself for that. I’m a big believer in the idea that what you’ve journeyed through is ultimately going to factor into the person you become, and how you’ll greet whatever big challenge you face next.”

Moore hasn’t revealed further details on what will be her first album since 2009’s Amanda Leigh. Since then, Moore’s music has been mostly tied to soundtracks for her acting projects, including 2010’s Tangled and her hit show This Is Us, for which she covered Linda Ronstad’s “Willin’” in 2017.

“The idea of diving back into music after so much time and personal change was really intimidating to me for a while,” she said in a statement. “But then I finally realized: I’m the only person who can make this move. It all has to start with me.”

This Is Us will return for its fourth season later this month. She will also appear in the action film Midway alongside Nick Jonas, Woody Harrelson and Dennis Quaid later this year.

BILLBOARD.COM: Mandy Moore leads an all-star cast in the gripping trailer for the WWII drama Midway that dropped Thursday morning (Sept. 12). In the two-and-a-half-minute preview of the Roland Emmerich-directed film, due out on Veteran’s Day weekend (Nov. 8), the singer and This Is Us star portrays Anne Best, wife of Lt. Dick Best, played by British actor Ed Skrein (Game of Thrones, Deadpool).

The movie is based on the real events following the surprise Dec. 1, 1941, bombing of Pearl Harbor in Honolulu, Hawaii, by the Japanese Navy, which led to the U.S. entering the war the next day. With a sense of the tension and angst leading up to the epic June 1942 showdown in the air and sea over the Midway Atoll, the clip provides brief glimpses of the star-packed cast, which includes scenes of a mustachioed Nick Jonas as aviation machinist Bruno Gaido, as well as stars Patrick Wilson, Luke Evans, Aaron Eckhart, Woody Harrelson and Dennis Quaid.

The cast for the film from legendarily bombtastic director/producer Emmerich (Independence Day, White House Down and Godzilla), also includes Darren Criss, Jake Weber (Homeland), Brennan Brown (Chicago Med), Alexander Ludwig (The Hunger Games), Tadanobu Sato (47 Ronin), Keean Johnson (Alita: Battle Angel), Jun Kunimura (Kill Bill: Volume 1) and many more.

Midway is one of the biggest live-action, big-budget starring movie roles for Moore, who has been nominated for a Golden Globe and Emmy for her role as Rebecca Pearson on the NBC drama This Is Us and who revealed in June that she’s working on her first new album in a decade with the aid of husband Dawes singer/guitarist Taylor Goldsmith.

POPCULTURE.COM: The trailer for This is Us Season 4 is here, and fans are more excited than ever for the drama’s return. The new footage includes shots of Milo Ventimiglia returning as young Jack, tugging on fans’ heartstrings ahead of the fall TV season premiere.

This is Us Season 4 is less than a month away, and now fans have a new sneak peek to geek out over. NBC released the new trailer on Saturday morning, the birthday of “the Big 3” in the series. The minute-long trailer finds Jack and Rebecca (Mandy Moore) having a serious flashback discussion in the car.

“It’s so strange, isn’t it? How just like that a completely stranger can become a big part of your story,” she says, as the trailer drifts off into other disparate shots from both timelines. “It’s actually kind of terrifying, you know? How a single cross with one person who you’ve never met can change everything.”

The trailer introduces some of the new faces joining the cast this season, notably M. Night Shyamalan, Jennifer Morrison and Omar Epps. So far, there are no details on the new characters these actors will play, nor how they will factor into the main story. Given the lines from Rebecca playing over the trailer, it sounds like each of them will have some kind of butterfly effect on the Pearson family, entangled with their past, present or both.

Fans are desperate for more information on This Is Us, and the cast seems just as excited. Earlier this month, the ensemble gave a group interview with Entertainment Tonight over breakfast, discussing how the next season will expand the world of the show even further.

“Our first episode, our universe fundamentally expands in a way that people might not be expecting,” Moore said.

“Some new characters being introduced, some new relationships are going to be evolving,” added Justin Hartley, who plays Kevin Pearson.

The interview also included series creator Dan Fogelman, who said that the season premiere was “potentially polarizing” for the show’s die-hard fan base.

“In the series, we have what I call little markers, little stakes we put in the ground of these episodes that serve as grounding points for the whole arc and the whole series,” he warned. “Our first two episodes of this season are two of those and it’s a big, bold, potentially polarizing — but in the best possible way — start to the season.”

This Is Us is one of TV’s most compelling dramas, as it plays with time and relationships in bold, non-linear ways. Love for the show reached a fever pitch at the end of Season 3, and it sounds like the cast and crew are continuing to take risks going forward.

This Is Us Season 4 premieres on Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 9 p.m. ET on NBC.

Congratulations, Mandy!

DEADLINE.COM: Mandy Moore has officially entered the Emmy race. The matriarch of NBC’s hit series, This Is Us, landed her first Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress In A Drama Series, joining fellow repeatedly nominated co-stars Sterling K. Brown and Milo Ventimiglia.

“It hasn’t sunk in. Not sure if it ever will. I’ve never dreamed of something like this. I’m really blown away. To say this is unexpected is a huge understatement,” Moore beamed while speaking with Deadline following the announcement.

While she may have been in disbelief over her individual nom, Moore was not surprised that she show picked up its third another nomination for outstanding drama series, especially in a Peak TV era where network television has fallen prey to premium cablers and streaming platforms.

“I believe [the show] deserves to be right there with everyone else, said Moore. “I think people love the cathartic nature of our show during these very tumultuous, confusing, emotionally charged times where I feel like life itself is sort of forcing us to be on one side or the other. Our show is just this middle ground that shows there’s more to celebrate.

Moore’s recognition from the TV Academy couldn’t come at a better time. Her character, Rebecca Pearson, really stepped up this last season and is “finally getting her credit as a fellow superhero along with Jack,” Moore reflected.

“This last season we saw her grappling with being a widow and being a single parent and watching the kids go off to college and graduate and picking up the pieces of her shattered life to figure out what she was going to do next. That’s all very real and resonant,” said Moore. “She constantly has 50 balls in the air, as most moms do, and makes it all work pretty seamlessly.”

As production on season 4 is underway, Moore teased that “the very first episode is going to surprise people in a really beautiful way… there’s a couple of twists in that first episode that I think people are going to be shocked by in the best way.”

Without giving too much away, Moore hinted to expect “happy times” and “a little bit of levity.” “Myself and Milo [characters], we’re picking up where we left off after that fateful road trip out to California. We just arrived back in Pittsburgh and we’re trying to figure out how we move forward with our relationship and meet each other’s respective families.”

But don’t be quick to put those Kleenex boxes away. “What people have come to expect from the show, you will not be disappointed.”

Season 4 of This Is Us returns this fall.

ALLURE.COM: Mandy Moore is what’s known in Hollywood as a triple threat: an actor, singer, and recycler. Yes, the third descriptor typically applies to dancers, but ever since becoming a Garnier brand ambassador, her recycling skills are poised to become the stuff of legend, all thanks to Garnier’s ‘Rinse, Recycle, Repeat’ campaign in collaboration with DoSomething.org. And she’s speaking out to encourage others to correctly recycle their empty beauty product packaging.

“Recycling has been a practice since the ‘80s, but I still know plenty of people who don’t have it as part of their routine,” Moore tells us. “It’s been in my life for as long as I can remember, but when you hear the staggering statistic that only half of Americans recycle their beauty and self-care products, it’s pretty mind-blowing how much waste that actually accounts for in landfills.”

A big factor in the woefully low number of empties being recycled, Moore says, is a lack of knowledge about what can and can’t be recycled and the right way to go about recycling certain types of packaging. “Before I became a part of Garnier’s ‘Rinse, Recycle, Repeat’ campaign, I was recycling things that aren’t technically recyclable, that can’t be collected in the regular collection,” she admits, which is why why the campaign is so important: it not only gets the word out about the right way to recycle things like conditioner bottles and moisturizer jars, it’s also the world’s first-ever beauty recycling program that facilitates the collection and recycling of beauty empties that otherwise cannot be recycled for free.

Empowered with new recycling know-how, the This Is Us star is eager to spread the word about easy ways to keep unnecessary beauty waste out of landfills. “It’s just about better-educating people so they can understand what and how they can recycle and hoping that they look at every way they can get involved and make a difference,” Moore says. “I hope they see what a real impact something as simple as recycling their shampoo bottles can make. It’s just nice to have a tangible action so you know you’re making a real difference.”

Moore makes that tangible action as easy as possible in her own home by keeping recycling receptacles in a front-and-center spot. “I’ve started keeping a box next to my recycling bin in my kitchen so I know that when I have my beauty empties and I’ve taken the lids off and whatnot, I have a specific place — I can train myself, and it’s not out-of-sight-out-of-mind,” she says. “I’ve heard of people keeping a box in their bathroom so it becomes more habitual. I’m fine with having it in my kitchen so I know that it’s there. It’s right next to the other recycling, so it all feels a little more organized to me, personally.”

This simple change has helped Moore feel like she’s making a difference, and she’s confident ‘Rinse, Recycle, Repeat’ will do the same for others: “I think that so many people — especially young people — want to find a way that they can make an impact, and this campaign will give them all the tools they need.”

ETONLINE.COM: Mandy Moore is rooting for Zachary Levi!

ET caught up with the This Is Us star on the red carpet at PaleyFest on Sunday, where she explained why her Tangled co-star would be the perfect addition to a future Justice League movie.

“He always had it in him,” Moore said of Levi, who portrays the latest DC superhero in Shazam! “He was always a superhero in my mind. Maybe the world is just finally starting to take notice.”

“I adore him. I think he’s one of the most phenomenally talented gentlemen out there,” she continued. “He’s a total sweetheart. I’m so happy for him. I can’t wait to go see his movie and support him. I think he’s, like, tailor made for a buff superhero.”

Moore isn’t the only one that seems to feel that way! Levi has become somewhat of a sex symbol on social media, with some referring to him as a “zaddy.” Speaking with ET earlier this month, the 38-year-old actor said he’s “not ready” for that type of attention.

“I don’t think about that stuff,” he said. “All that stuff is just the icing on the cake of the not real life that all of this is. So if people wanna put me in the same conversation as all those guys [like the Hemsworth brothers], rock ‘n’ roll. I just am gonna keep doing what I think is the right thing in my life.”

All jokes aside, Levi said he couldn’t be any more grateful for getting the opportunity to play such a coveted role.

“This is the far biggest thing I’ve ever been blessed enough to be a part of and be the titular character of, so it’s super surreal and super cool,” he gushed. “I always dreamed and believed it was possible that I could be a superhero maybe one day, certainly ever since I was a kid I wanted that to be a reality. But these roles are rare, there’s not that many of them and I had already been very blessed playing an Asgardian in another universe.”

This Is Us airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on NBC. The season three finale, which creator Dan Fogelman teases will be “gigantic,” airs April 2.

VARIETY.COM: This Is Us star Mandy Moore successfully transitioned from a teenage pop star to an adult who juggles singing, acting and, soon enough, producing professionally. On March 25 she is being celebrated for her achievements with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, an honor she calls “tremendously humbling.”

“I feel like I’m operating at my best now. I know what I want; I know how to ask for it; I know how to not settle until I get that,” Moore says. “I’m better at stepping up to the plate and acknowledging the value I bring to the plate. I guess that just only comes with the wisdom and clarity of time and age.”

THE INDEPENDENT: Mandy Moore will receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame to celebrate her two-decade career in music, film and television.

Moore discussed the forthcoming ceremony, which is scheduled for the 25 March, on Jimmy Kimmel Live, telling the host that it is “crazy” to think about the honour.

Kimmel showed her a photo of her star’s future location, which is close to a costume shop that Moore says she has visited in the past.

The actor said she has invited approximately the same number of people to the ceremony as she did to her 2018 wedding to musician Taylor Goldsmith.

Dan Fogelman, the creator of the hit series This Is Us, on which Moore plays the role of Rebecca Pearson, is set to give a speech during the event.

“He’s given me my life,” Moore told Kimmel of Fogelman. “It’s the reason I’m getting a star on the Walk of Fame.”

In order for a celebrity to get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, a nomination must be submitted in their name and with their agreement. A selection committee then reviews applications.

There is a $40,000 fee to cover the creation and maintenance of the star, which can be paid by industry executives (such as a recording label) or, on occasion, by fans.

US WEEKLY: Standing right beside her. Shane West supported his A Walk to Remember costar Mandy Moore after she spoke out about her ex-husband Ryan Adams’ alleged abusive behavior toward her during their marriage.

“Warmest hug EVER to the strongest woman I know,” the Nikita alum, 40, commented on the This Is Us star’s Wednesday, February 13, Instagram post.

Moore, 34, and West starred as unlikely teenage couple Jamie Sullivan and Landon Carter, respectively, in the 2002 romantic drama, which was adapted from Nicholas Sparks’ novel of the same name. The pair reunited with director Adam Shankman in February 2017. “Welp. These 2 gentlemen are still some of the best around,” the actress captioned a selfie of the trio on Instagram at the time. “Loved catching up with ya, @theshanewest and @adamshankman. My [heart] is full.”

The “Candy” singer accused Adams, 44, of psychological abuse in a New York Times exposé published on Wednesday. “Music was a point of control for him,” she told the newspaper of her ex, whom she split from in January 2015 following nearly six years of marriage. “He would always tell me, ‘You’re not a real musician, because you don’t play an instrument.’”

She continued: “His controlling behavior essentially did block my ability to make new connections in the industry during a very pivotal and potentially lucrative time — my entire mid-to-late 20s.”

Through his lawyer, Adams denied Moore’s claims, which he called “completely inconsistent with his view of the relationship.” He also noted that he supported his ex-wife’s “well-deserved professional success.”

The Tangled star defended her allegations in her Wednesday Instagram post. “Speaking your truth can be painful and triggering but it’s always worth it,” she wrote. “My heart is with all women who have suffered any sort of trauma or abuse. You are seen and heard. #sisterhoodforever.”

Moore, who wed Taylor Goldsmith in November 2018, stepped out on Thursday, February 14, for the first time since the piece was published. A source told Us the songstress looked “super happy” while hanging out with her friends at Saddle Ranch in Los Angeles, adding: “It just looked like a regular, fun girls’ night out with all the girls talking to each other, eating, drinking [and] snapping pics on their cell phones of each other.”
